cast-of-sweeney-todd-sound-ideas-theatre-norwich

Sound Ideas make their debut performance at Epic TV Studios in a bespoke pop up theatre space this April with seven performances of the classic love story, Ghost.

Walking back to their apartment late one night a tragic encounter sees Sam murdered and his beloved girlfriend Molly alone, in despair and utterly lost.

But with the help of a phoney storefront psychic Sam, trapped between this world and the next, tries to communicate with Molly in the hope of saving her from grave danger…

The movie Ghost has proven to be one of cinema’s biggest all-time hits. Starring the late Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg it was the highest grossing film of 1990 and won an Oscar for screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin who has adapted his screenplay for this musical.

The movie and the musical feature The Righteous Brothers’ Unchained Melody alongside many more terrific songs co-written by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart.

Gender: Male

Sam is the hero of our story, a office-worker in New York City, living with his longterm girlfriend, Molly. One day Sam is murdered by Willie Lopez, and as a Ghost he seeks the help of a reluctant medium, Oda Mae, to protect Molly when Willie plans to strike again…

Physical Attributes: to look late 20s to 35 years of age, slim but not overly so. This character needs to be a strong naturalistic actor and able to interact well with Molly, especially in the romantic scenes. Needs to be confident in solo lines as the Ghost and have a New York accent. Also needs to be able to move well e.g. in physical theatre transitions and in character movements/illusions.

Gender: Female

Age: 20 to 35

Molly is a artist living in New York City with her boyfriend, Sam Wheat, until he’s murdered. Sam, as a ghost, then contacts a reluctant spiritual reader to warn Molly of Sam’s murderer, who will be next Could be 20-35 years of age and definitely a strong actor. Able to interact well with Sam and be convincing when playing the grief stricken girlfriend. Be confident in transition from ‘in-love to ‘broken-hearted’ without being OTT. New York accent needed but not much dancing required.

Gender: Female

Age: 25 to 50

Oda Mae Brown works as a spiritual advisor out of a storefront séance parlour in Brooklyn. Though she was told as a child that she had “the gift” by her mother and grandmother (who were both able to communicate with the dead), Oda Mae did not actually experience communication with the spirits until she “met” Sam Wheat during a séance for an unrelated client.

We are willing to accept applications from candidates of all ethnicities. Larger than life character and able to play for laughs but still have some sincerity and truthful moments. Some dancing required, particularly in solos, however this can be portrayed as comedic.

Gender: Male

Age: 20 to 35

Carl Bruner is the main protagonist of the show and good friend and colleague of Sam’s. When Sam discovers there are discrepancies in some bank accounts, which actually is a money laundering operation run by Carl, he orders his partner, Willie Lopez to attempt to steal Sam’s security codes which result in Willie killing Sam. Carl sneaks into Molly’s apartment and steals the codes. He plans to use them to access 4 million dollars, from a laundered account.

Really strong actor and singer who is able to play ‘slimy’ business man. Needs to be able to transition from aggressive to ‘slimy’ when seducing Molly. Some physical theatre work needed for transitions but not specifically a dance role. New York accent.

Gender: Male

Age: 18 to 35

When Willie is introduced, he attempts to rob Sam’s wallet. This results in a fight, and Sam is killed. Later on, we see that Willie has Sam’s wallet. Although he has it, he fails in getting the codes. Sam later finds out that his friend Carl Bruner is really the one responsible for his death and Willie and him are partners in crime.

More masculine and physically aggressive than Carl. No singing but needs some physical theatre work (e.g. his death) is not required to be a dancer. Will double in ensemble.

Gender: Male

Age: 18 to 35

The Subway Ghost helps and teaches Sam to touch, and push things. He also thinks that the trains are his, because he was pushed onto the track and killed. He pushes off any ghost that gets on ‘his’ train’. Aggressive ‘spooky’ but within the realms of truthfulness Good physical actor required as well as physical character work experience. Will double in ensemble.

Gender: Male

Age: Any

The Hospital Ghost is one of the main ghosts Sam encounters, nice part with some fantastic songs. Is usually played older but not 100% necessary. Great actor & singer required naturalistic with attitude to him while hiding his sadness. Will double in ensemble.

Gender: Female

Clara and Louise are Oda Mae’s helpers at her séance parlour. Nice comedy parts, Great singers required. Will double in ensemble.

Ensemble will play a range of roles, including office workers, street dancers, ghosts and backing dancers. We are looking for a diverse range of performers who can both sing and dance. All cameos will also be cast from the ensemble.
